Get Offline, Make Face Time!
Noticed these awesome Dentyne (chewing gum) advertisements on the NYC subways recently, which challenge technology’s ability to create a “real” connection between people. Check out this NYTimes article to read more about the campaign or the makefacetime.com website, but beware, it shuts down in 3 minutes.

Awww! Awesome. Cute ads.
Its the balance-creation which causes the maximum pain. What works for me, might not work for someone else. Of course a relationship needs to have ‘touch’ time and LOTS of it. Personally, my relationships don’t work if there is hardly any touch time – I HATE not being around the person I’m supposed to be in love with. What’s the point of being in a relationship when each person is actually married to their job / their laptops?! Helps when both either work together / are freelancers & work from home / can involve each other in their professional lives / have similar online habits.
A lot of people are addicted to the ‘online’ and find it impossible to tune out. That’s because they usually don’t have a non-online life – so its easy to find solace on the internet – to hide behind the web-wall. Building ‘real’ relationships / friends needs effort and we’re all battling with a lot of other self-created and peer pressure.
Personally, I can log off whenever I feel like it without the guilt – sometimes ‘online’ friends complain that I wasn’t there to answer their IM – I tell them they should’ve just called me on my phone or met up instead! Business emails too are answered just twice everyday – I have a life offline too! I can’t be everywhere at the same time – I need ‘me’ time and I refuse be pressured into answering EVERY email, EVERY IM and EVER message / phone call. And I don’t work weekends
[ Sorry if the comment's longer than the blog post itself :p Had the writing coming so kept at it! ]
Does anyone know what font this is? I’ve been searching around, but I can’t ID it.
Nevermind, I found it. It’s Insignia. http://www.linotype.com/872/insignia-family.html
