Filminute: The International One-Minute Film Festival
I’m a huge fan of bite-sized storytelling as you can tell by my own experiment daily140. That makes me very excited about Filminute, which challenges filmmakers, writers, animators, artists, designers, and creative producers to develop and submit the world’s best one-minute films. Check out their shortlist for 2008, a very diverse selection of well made films.
The best one-minute films will “resonate” beyond one minute. These are films that we expect to affect viewers in the same way any great film would. The challenge, of course, is to do it all in 60 seconds, no more, no less.

If you’re a typeface geek like me, this site is a must visit for a variety of reasons. The artist, Jos Buivenga, has a sophisticated selection of fonts and he’s giving them away for free. Art director by day, the impassioned designer is not too bothered by the commercial potential just yet as he tries to answer the baffled comments on his “About” page. Be sure to also check out his blog as he goes through the creative and technical process of his creations. Thanks for the great designs Jos and keep up the great work.

Tina Fey’s second Sarah Palin impersonation on SNL
If you liked Tina Fey’s first impression of Gov. Sarah Palin, this second one will blow your mind. She’s imitating Palin on her recent interview with Katie Couric (played on SNL by Amy Poehler) while she was in New York last week for the UN General Assembly meet.
Katie, I’d like to use one of my lifelines. I’d like to phone-a-friend.

Digital Imagery Architect, Mark Goldsworthy, has some amazing samples of his film and video game work on his website and here’s a particularly cool evolution of an image from concept to final product, inspired by the Natural History Museum, London. Do you think a landscape orientation would make it stronger or do you like the imposing size of the structure by giving it more height and shooting from a low angle? I really like how low it’s set, getting you very close to the destruction.

The UI is simple yet elegant and the palette allows you to customize your mood preferences and save them for later as mood playlists on the “Moodboard”.
Some folks have complained about the resolution of the pictures but I quite liked the stylized effect which almost makes it feel like a lenticular surface. The player comes with some preset moods and I highly recommend Simplify and Inspire. I’m not sure how much it can do to change your mood but it’s definitely inspiring and if nothing else, interesting to look at. So start streaming, sit back and enjoy the show.
Cut Copy & The Presets Live at Webster Hall, NYC (9/22/08)
Enjoy this little video I shot of the concert. The “Hearts on Fire” finale by Cut Copy was the highlight but all the jumping around messed up the audio. Either way, the lights were off the charts.
